Bike Ride - Whitegate to Midleton rtn route

Well Saturday I went out on the road bike - bit pee'd off cos I turned off the GPS and so now Strava PR's :o( but enjoyed it and although it rained I seemed to be pretty quick (for me) bearing in mind it was the first time out on the bike for a year.

60r26 by two HD's

Again I went in before work and attempted the 60r26 and again at lunchtime - both resulted in HD's one 23 minutes in and the other after only 20min :o(

aborted 60r26 am 40r26 lunch

In early and attempted a 60r26 targeting 1:42.1 pace but just after 20 minutes the HD friends showed up

So at lunchtime I just dialed in 40 minutes and although still bloody tough I managed to get through - phew

6by2min 1rr

hmm - today’s session - 12by2min 1rr @2k +2 to +3 - so I thought about 1:33 should do it - 645m - it did something alright - started of feeling tired in the warm up and sluggish was hoping that would clear by the start of the session itself - it didn't. Still in the vein of ticking the session boxes I set off and after about 5 strokes "ping" the brass ring on the handle flew off - I kind of stopped and looked trying to work out what it was and once I realized I had to dig in to get the first rep back on target - not a great start but hit 646m so target achieved - but I was blowing hard - lungs really struggling - not sure if it's the humidity or lack of recent speed work but it was not a good sign – also struggled to get the rate up over 30spm for some reason – possible being half asleep – either way I was on for a fight from the first rep – by the third rep I was looking for the “get out clause” knuckled down to get 6 reps done but by that point I was really rasping in the breathing and just had to stop.

I did try to start again and just do the next 6 reps with a bit of a gap but me lungs where not co-operating

Pro’s & Con’s of the session
Con’s
1) Didn’t get the 12 reps done
2) Couldn’t get the rate up

Pro’s
1) Got 12 minutes of work done at a fast pace
2) Burnt some calories

30r18 75% HRR 2by1min 1r

Lunchtime session was 30r18 75% HRR and then 2by1min 1r target was 1:26.0 so 348m and I came out slightly faster - felt good and long in the stroke so all's well today :o)

Garmin HR Detail

45r18 75% HRR

So today the schedule called for 45+30 r18 70% HRR 2r - but I ain't able to stick all that together - so I'm doing 45r18 75% HRR 3h30m rest then 30r18 75% HRR - so first up the 45min - got in the work gym and the air con was off so set that going and got changed - started well but soon found I was slowing down to keep the HR under control - very sweaty - the temp only ducked under 18c by the end and humidity is high here.

30r20 TT - trying to stop stopping

Well another three days gone without training - Friday, Saturday and Sunday and very nearly Monday as well - to be honest I've been getting pretty fed up with not being able to train as and when I want - but with a sub2 year old in the house (who I can't actually spend enough time with during her waking hours) the better half and our wedding to sort (who to be fair as done pretty much everything - although I do have to remind her that if I hand't actually "popped the question" then it wouldn't be happening at all and therefore she hasn't actually done everything - OK that one is wearing thin   ) work which is always a challenge as I now deal with various databases and pulls on my time - the dogs who I don't spend nearly enough time with (I'm actually sat out the back with them now as I type) so sometimes squeezing in the training volume I would like to do (not necessarily what Q wants - he's pretty flexible and understanding - but I feel this need to keep pushing) so basically ye I'm about as busy as most adults in the world. So tonight the Mrs and I went to the cinema - we watched Hercules - it got the goosebumps up and I came home vowing to row - once the dogs where walked, the baby was entertained and put to bed and the Mrs was happy - so about 9:30pm then

Schedule called for 30r20 TT - my blood was calling for CTC r20 or r24 - I decided to do the decent thing and do the 30r20 - not done one for a while it seemed - not rowed for almost 4 days - so decided to go cautious - aimed at 1:44 split - ducked under that at the start - then it got horrible and it was a case of trying not to stop - a habit I have developed of late is hitting the cancel button all too easy when I see a session isn't going the way I like - not tonight - may well be the worst time 30r20 I'll do this season - but in terms of toughness to get through it was right up there.

Result - I finished it and although the time is crap I'm happy anf the bag is packed for a session early tomorrow - lets stop stopping shall we
