Well I'm still undecided on Bristol at the moment - at the weekend I was 80% not going - after this mornings 60r20 70% HRR I was 90% not going as it's the slowest HRR 60 I have done ever (OK probably not but sure felt like it) almost binned it so many times as I saw the pace drop and drop - nearly 3 seconds per 500m slower than a good day :(
So lunchtime I wanted to push a little and see where I stood in the great 2k - but capped it at r24 as my lungs are not conditioned to high rates at the moment - especially after having the best part of two weeks of - even before that I have been missing key sessions as life's "stuff" gets in the way. I looked back and saw that in Jun (6th) I rowed a 2k r24 at 1:33.6 pace so just figured I would target sub 1:34 and see where it took me - god it took me breath away - blowing like a good un from 800m into it - thank god I had headphones on or I would have put myself off  still not decided on Bristol - it's all dependent on life's "stuff" and also if I think I can put in a good time - don't want to roll up and row anything less than 6:10 and to be honest a 6:09 would be a disappointment - but probably a fair reflection on current training.

Indoor Rowing on the Concept2 target was sub6 on the 2k as a 40 year old - now 50 and just getting some ducks in a row lets see where we can go. Previous Overall World Record holder in the 100km 6H12m39.2s ave 1:51.7 and Irish National Record holder in 30's 40's and 50's groups. Age group European & Irish 2k Champion and British Open 2k Champion

2k r24 Time Trial - with video
The end of this training cycle called for a 2k r24 TT originally scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday) but due to a work event (Canoeing in aid of Diabetes Ireland - sponsorship will be gratefully received :o) ) I had to bring it forward to today. Also due to the large possibility of distractions at lunchtime I decided if I was up in time I would do it before I started work. On reflection both of these decisions may have cost me a few tenths of a second - but then that's the price to pay for being an amateur athlete - training fits around life and not the other way. Target wise I had a 6:15.9 from two months ago - between Q and myself we had the target of 6:13.9 in mind going into this - that meant a split of 1:33.5 with a small push at the end.
So after waking to here the rain (heavy Irish rain!) I was up and had my porridge then walked the dogs - got soaked - and into work. Race warm up done and I set the phone to record and off I set. Maybe a fraction hard at the start and too many strokes so had to back off to get that in line and let it slip too much - legs where tired and had to dig deep in order to focus the mind - too many of my HD's (handle downs) have come from seeing a split slip and giving up on the piece - not because I couldn't finish - but because I couldn't see how I could hit my target - so I dug in and got over the halfway mark and settled for beating my last attempt but as I got towards the end I dug in a little more and keeping to the 24 strokes per minute came so close to target - but alas I missed - result was 6:14.4 so 0.5 seconds away :o(

2k r24 - interrupted in the final throws!
Decided to do the 2k r24 today - target would be 1:35.3 based on PB +4 - but on tired legs after yesterdays 60min PB i would be happy if I hit 1:36 - warm up was not exactly settling - neither where the people who decided to come in and "cheer me on" with about a minute left at which point I was in oxygen deficit and struggling to count as it was - I think I ended up with one too many strokes overall - think I should have had 151 to be strict but ended with 152 - I blame the intrusion ...
