AM 60r20 70% HRR - PM 10kr22 open HR C2CTC

Pre work in to gym for a 60r20 70% HRR - nearly had a breakdown when I walked in and couldn;t see the ergs!!! But then spotted them over near the window - phew - quite nice location as when's it's dark the window works as a mirror so I can see both what's going on around me and keep a eye on my own "form" good session and was pretty strict with HR.

;

So lunch time loomed and I wanted a bash of the 10k - aim was to low rate it and just keep the push on - no looking at the HR and grind it out - pleased enough with that - I'll call it r22 even though it shows r21

for the power of the paddies! ctc 10 min

well that was bloody horrible - had a short time in the gym at lunch and opted for the c2ctc which this month was a straight 10 minutes - in my head I planned on going 1:40 for the first 7 minutes 30 seconds rate 26 then putting on the pressure - in reality it was what it was - still with only two weeks sporadic training over the last three weeks with the three month break I'll take what I can and have to be happy I got it done - there where a few HD moments but simply reminded myself of a few recent incidents - namely running marathons and the pain I was in prior to my back operation - ye - this was't a patch on those - shame I couldn't get sub 1:40 overall split but what's done is done and I certainly was.

Guy jumped on the erg when I finished and I noted he pushed the lever straight up to 10 so I was having a quick chat and then mentioned he might be better of with a lower drag (I had it on 7 for 140) he agreed it felt a lot better - might have to do a bit of a class in there if they let me/are interested.

CTC for PaddyPower IRC - 9by300m 30sec rest

A deviation was called for today away from the sprint stuff - a rallying call to the paddypower flag meant a shot over the CTC bow - now not having rowed for more than 5 minutes in one stint since the 10k Irish record (40-49H) on the 26th Jan I knew this was going to be pretty nasty - well at the pace I wanted - which was to clip into top spot temporary while the big lads recover from Boston etc so 1:31.2 was the target and those 30 seconds rest are bloody useless lol - mucked up three or four of the starts but happy to say I got through it - left the drag at the heavy end also.

The evidence of lack of time on the erg all too clear on the blister tearing a hole in my palm lol

Luckily came to my senses - CTC

This month’s CTC is Row 250m, 1'R, 500m, 1'R 750m, 1'R, 500m, 1'R, 250m and finish - I had a brainwave of doing the 250's at 1:20 pace and the 500's at 1:25 pace with the 750 at 1:30 pace - which would average at 1:25.6 - 6m25s - but after going through my race warm up and struggled to pull 1:30 split for 300m I very quickly re-evaluated - the plan then was to hit 1:35 pace for the first three then see - I think I had it about right - blowing big at r28 (any higher rate would have done for me at this moment) then the 500 on the down side I increased and for the final 250 through 1:25 pace from start to finish - job done as was I. Had a slight stomach ache today and crap night’s sleep last night - woken at 3am by our dog who's had a operation recently and in the kitchen - reckon he saw a cat through the back door and went berserk, Then up at 5:45am for pre work row - joy.

Actually just noticed I got through the 750 at sub 1:34 - happy with that for where I am

CTC r28 for Joan

Thank you Joan for helping me through this - any regular ctc and I would have been looking to wrap it up on the 4th rep and finished on the 6th but thinking of what the session was about meant I kept going thinking about having Joan in my corner cheering me on in the shed.

The row came out of the blue and with little prep other than getting changed - hadn't planned on rowing today but a opportunity arouse and I grabbed it. Up to the shed and after a full race warm up at old race pace targets I was pretty much cooked before I started lol but dialled in the 15 by 1 min with 1 min rest and using a target of sub 1:32 (so 327m) I set off on the model B. First two reps went well as they tend to but the third started to bite and on finishing the 4th I knew I was in trouble. A lack of erg fitness (or any other kind of fitness) was a problem and that coupled with messing up timings for the start (hitting 1:50 first split for a lot of the reps) meant digging deep and in order to try and keep the stroke rate to 28 meant I lost a minimum of 3m on a lot of the later reps ( ie I'd take my last stroke and see predicted finish of 320 and end with 317) still a good training effect from the session and a plus 1 on the mental peg board should see me in good stead for a few days at least. Nearly sick after the 6th rep and pretty much every one after lol.

CTC recon

Travelled home to yorkshire with the daughter on Sunday for a family funeral - my Great Aunt - she was 93 bless her - although failing health over the last ten years I remember her as the wonderfully warm loving lady from my childhood who always had a cup of tea and cake for your visit at the least - often a full roast dinner with all the trimmings being a farmers wife :o)

So returned last night and bed gone midnight so bit tired today and only a lunchtime training availble - decided to have a sab at the CTC and see how it went.

Row 500m with 1 min rest
Row 400m with 1 min rest
Row 300m with 1 min rest
Row 200m with 1 min rest
Row 100m with 2 mins rest
then finish with 2000m

Unfortunetly I was running low on time and high on sweat with a meeting due at 1:30 I needed to stop at 1:15 so with the first 5 pieces rowed I knew I wasn't going to get the 2k done and have a shower and be in the meeting - so i took a screen shot - then decided I would row just to see how it was feeling - although I was averaging 1:36 when I stopped with the dealy in stopping the monitor it got slightly higher - pretty sure I could hold 1:37 if not better for that so have myself a target.
