30r20 70% HRR - my weight aged 35

loads of charts and stuff via Garmin here - http://connect.garmin.com/activity/471493723

30r20 HRR 70% before work - pushed for time so HR pushed up towards the end - still got to the desk for 9am  :-D

found a piece of paper last night which showed my weight aged 35 - 135.8kg - I now weigh 108kg - when people ask me why I row - that is why

30r20 70% HRR - went to 75% - smelly boys

Have to move to the gym on Wednesdays for the next few weeks as opposed to my own little room - so up a little earlier to facilitate and got set up in good time for the 30r20 70% HRR - three others in the gym - my director and two young guys from another company who rent space in our building (so don't really know them) they where doing the usual jumping from machine to machine with no real clue - pipe cleaners for arms but vest tops  (sorry I know shouldn't be cruel) but what really got me was the aftershave/deoderant - it was so strong I nearly sneezed mid row - and can't say for certain but I think it was the reason the HR got away from me towards the end - tried backing off but it wasn't dropping so pushed on to a low pressure 75% HRR

30r20 70% HRR - 1:47.3 Ave Pace??

And so a little more shave off the 30r20 70% - have to admit I had to check my HR was working a few times  but as I wear two and I had the Suunto on the handle while the PM was picking up the Garmin I knew all was working well - well until the last 5 minutes when the Garmin strap was moving and sitting on top of the Suunto so a bit of fiddling while rowing to sort them out hence a few blips on the HR.

In other news my weight has gone back up to 110kg so I've got a Garmin Vivofit - http://sites.garmin.com/vivo/ - coming - I had a Jawbone Up band which along with MyFitnessPal helped me drop a lot of weight last year - it ended up breaking/stopped working after three months (got the money back - good old amazon) but the Vivofit can also pick up the HR from my erging and sends all my data to Garmin Connect which makes it a little easier to sort out. They are out of stock at the moment but hopefully not long.

Oh and the hands have stopped being torn apart on the new erg handle - so everything is sunny  :-D

40r18 - 70% HRR - inners coping better than outers

following on from the AM session - PM session was 40r18 @70% (146) went along nicely and managed to keep the overall split sub 1:50 pace - which is nice - but the arse is getting shredded so I'll be off to buy that spray on skin stuff - get ready to hear me scream! and with the new handle and the upping of meters the hands are coming apart - stupid week skin! The inners (heart and lungs) are coping fine though  :-D

60r18 HRR 70% - too much going on in my head

Which resulted in the HR bouncing up and down all over the place – felt like dumping the handle a few times but managed to crack on with it – got to at least try and keep in contact with the Q-Power ladies as they pile the meters on

Had to get in work early - combine morning - lunch - afternoon breaks and will leave late to get this in

still popping pain killers and anti inflams - I may be the only person who requires assistance to the ergs on Saturday

40r18 HRR 70 (146) mind control

Well with the announcement of a large contingent of the University of Bristol Boat Club entering the fray in the Open on the 19th at the http://indoor.bristolrowing.co.uk/startlist.php Bristol Indoor Rowing Challenge the race now feels all the more real (there was only 5 entrants in the open before – now 19) – that alongside the knowledge that I only have two more “red” sessions left and the mind starts to wander to imagining the start line at the race – not helpful when you are trying to keep the old HR down for a 40r18 HRR 70% (146) but having done a few of these I have a few techniques to keep the mind in check. Wasn’t feeling to great this morning – usual lack of sleep combined with a bit of a sore throat – ahhh race build up – got to love it. Also good to see Sub7 in the mix for the team event

60r18 HRR 70% (146) honesty meters

Well bugger me I thought I'd be miles of on the erg - in fact it's only just now I've realised I PB'd it  had a filter coffee about ten minutes before I started and kept thinking about upcoming races which kept pushing the HR up here and there - so had to bleed the pace now and then - the coffee seemed to ware off towards the end and I just beat my previous best of 1:52.0 from the 7th August a and that's with little low rate distance work recently  ooo something good be cooking under my bonnet!

3by 20@18 HRR 70% - session 2

Managed to sneak in a second session again today - have to take the opportunity when it arises - simple 3 by 20@18 HRR 70% (146) bit of a slog but worth it :-)

60r18 70% HRR - session 2 today

Simple 60min @18SPM with a HRR at 70% (146) although temp in the erg shed a little high at 22c I got the work done and feel better for it after the lunch crunch lol

30r18 70% HRR - continue the recovery

Just hitting the 30 minute piece again with a 70% HRR - this time @18. Was tough to get motivated as very tired this morning - but after a quick coffee and a piece of chocolate I managed to head down to get changed. Things ticking along nicely, still some skin to heal and niggle in the groin to sort out, but happy with the progress.

Also somehow missed this tweet yesterday! Love it ;-)

Recovery row post 100k - 30@22 HRR 70%

Post 100k (see Saturday’s blog) “recovery” row today which I decided on a 30@22 HRR 70% (146bpm) fluffy but still a little bite in it to keep me interested. Wasn’t sure what would happen body wise to be honest – no major problems that have surfaced – knees a little sore – back a little aching – small skin loss on one finger – I suppose the main thing is the groin strain in the right leg (probably brought about by the body compensating for the knee on Saturday) it’s sore enough but not so bad that I think training would make it worse.

To that end I set of on a  1k warm up – that brought to attention the butt skin loss – well scar/scab that had to me removed before I could row and then off I set on the 30r22 – after a while I noticed the breathing was heavy on the chest – but put that down to the body protesting – since when did I ever pay attention to that though.

So cracked on and lined up 8200m – failed by a meter even by breaking HR cap by 3bpm in the last minute – still that didn’t hurt as much as the shower after when the water hit the open butt scars !!
