40r20 - struggling and it shows - 34 hour recovery ...

done before work - on finishing I stopped the fenix 3 and the readout said 34 hours recovery lol

doing what I've told myself not to do by looking back - used to be able to do this pace/rate for a hour at only 70% HRR (146 bpm)

Race warm up at lunch - 40r20 after work

Had a bit of a accident yesterday afternoon and fell on my back - not a high fall and didn't hurt - but later on and today I "felt it" so at lunchtime I just went through the race warm up - felt ok and so after work with a opportunity to row I went through a 40r20 - still no HR at moment so just went for split - what a mess!

Back from the sick list - AM 40r20 65% HRR - PM 30r20 plus 2by1min

So back after 10 days away sick - managed to get two 30r20 65% HRR sessions in over the weekend but today I wanted to get back to it - started before work with a 40r20 65% HRR - struggle to get into the groove especially with the HR going higher than I'm used to for the pace - but slowly slowly catchy monkey

Then lunchtime came about and the weekly 30r20 was on the cards - I decided with the sickness to target a 80% HRR row (160 bpm) and look at the 1:45 - 1:46 pace .... errr. .... well I'm in a hurry to catch the monkey!

After that I slotted in 2by1min on 1min rest just to get the pump - no real target just concentrate on technique and stroke.

40r20 70% HRR in the am - 30r20 TT lunch

The weekend did it's usual job on me in terms of training and I can't see it being any different until after the wedding now - priorities Paul - priorities ... so no training.

Into work early enough this morning to get a 40min r20 70% workout in - still working on technique and it still seems to be making me tired for the amount of meters I get - still gotta take the baby steps now

So then lunchtime came around and it was time for the 30r20 - something I've been remiss in completing recently - in fact the 11th of August was the last 30r20 TT and looking back I aimed at 1:43.5 after starting that day - wish I saw that before starting today as I aimed at 1:42.9 - that got a bit tough - who am I kidding - it was a complete grind - almost HD'd a few times - at 9 minutes to go the swerve was definitely downwards but luckily got my head together and carried on - better to come back up to work having finished it no matter what the pace.

Just before the end the ergdata connection went and I had to try and make sure I got in spot on 600 strokes

Then I re-plugged and got the stroke count - bang on 600 - phew

This also qualifies as a new Irish 40-49H 30min record - which is nice

40r20 70% HRR plus 2by1min 1r - technique work

So 40r20 HRR 70% at lunch - still very tired from the weekend so getting up and in early is a struggle - still working on technique - feels like I am rowing short and compressed but the stroke length says different - also upper back is sore but that could be from weekend lol

Then tried to use the technique in the 2by1min 1r and felt strong with it - able to punch power through the legs

50r20 - 40r20 - HRR 70% - tired old man

Bit pooped at lunch time and the row showed it

pre work 50r20 1:50.0 13,631 Ave HR 138
lunchtime 40r20 1:50.5 10,852 Ave HR 138

So with less time and at a better time of day the row caused more stress which I reckon is pointing to a tired body and mind

40r20 pre work - antibiotics causing HR increase?

So just a 40r20 70% HRR this morning before work - I've been on antibiotics for a mouth infection for almost a week now and am wondering if it maybe these (or the infection) causing the increase in HR during these rows (well drop in pace for the HR cap)

40r20 70% HRR plus 1min 1:29.0

Q emailed me to say:

"Keep the intensity at a maximum of 65-70% for the next 48 hrs, keep the distances low, but you can put in a single 1’ or two at 1:29 if you fancy it"

This was after this morning's row - so played it again 40r20 70% HRR and eaked out a few more meters and then did the 1min - felt a lot tougher than that should for me - god am I getting old lol

My blog on the 9 records in 24 hours has now had 329 hits - was at 188 before it went on the row2k website - thanks guys :o)

40r20 70% HRR

Got into work today and as I was getting the gear out of my bag I realised I forgot my towel - phoey! I did pack a small hand towel (used for wiping of sweat in interval sessions normally) so had the decision of not rowing or drip drying - so knocked off 40r20 70% @ 1:50.2 10889m – still a little under par – little achy still and butt tears at the annoying stage of healing – will probably do a 30 or 40 at lunch 70% and drop in a minute 1:29

40r20 65% HRR struggle

Woke up this morning in a clammy sweat - lovely - sure signs the body still dealing with the weekends efforts so took my time getting ready for work and then just dialed in a 40min workout - r20 and 65% HRR cap - which came up pretty blinking fast for the pace I was doing - so then just settled into it - the gym was a little warmer than of late and it's pretty humid here. Still was feeling pretty stiff and achy through the row - but hopefully pushing the blood around will do me good.

40r20 HRR 70% am 30r20 TT lunchtime

Bit of a mess training as usual so trying to just knuckle down - Bristol is now open to enter (Bristol Indoor Rowing web page) so if I am going to put in a decent time I need to get my head straight. So 40r20 70% HRR before work and then 30r20 TT at lunchtime - taking last weeks 30r20 split of 1:45 I figured I should be able to hold 1:44 and once I started found myself at 1:43.5 so just held on to that - not easy - not destroying - just training....
